The "air station" is located at 49 Canal Street, up 72 creaking stairs, directly underneath the pigeon loft. This is where the Black Hand Club regularly meets after school. Felix, the one with the trumpet, is the leader. The others are Adele, a clever girl, Rollo with his striped sweater, and Kiki W.S., accompanied by his squirrel (W.S. stands for "with squirrel"). These are the five master detectives of the Black Hand Club. They follow the tracks of rogues and robbers. And readers can assist them with their detective work by finding important evidence needed to solve the cases hidden in the illustrations.
The Author
Hans Jürgen Press was born in a small village in Masuria in 1926. From a very young age, he was interested in biological interactions and physical laws. With the help of a jam jar, a colander and a magnifying glass, he began to explore nature and unravel the mysteries of everyday life. At the age of five, he began to draw, and was soon able to produce caricatures of the people who entered his father's shop. In 1948, he moved to Hamburg, where he produced cartoons and childrens drawings for domestic and foreign journals, and studied at the University for Fine Arts. From 1953 on, he worked for the news magazine "Stern," in which the first stories about "Little Mister Jacob" were published in 1960. Hans Jürgen Press also designed several books dealing with playful series of experiments related to nature and technology, and his suspenseful detective stories "The Adventures of the 'Black Hand'" have come to be regarded as children's classics. Hans Press died on 19 October 2002 in Hamburg.
