I Am the Little Squirrel

The little squirrel lives high up in the oak, where it has built itself a drey. In the fall, while it is out collecting plenty of food for the winter, it encounters the hedgehog and the wood mouse. In the winter, when the snow falls, it snuggles up in its warm nest. A charming story to read aloud, with catchy text for little nature explorers.

The Author

My name is Amrei Fechner. I have published over 70 children's books under this name. I always wanted to write books for kids, so at the beginning of my career, I simply drew the books I would have liked to have had as a child. Born on a farm in the Allgäu region, I grew up in Munich and Düsseldorf, and to this day I love both city life and a nature-loving country lifestyle. After graduating from high school, I studied fine art, art history, and book design at art academies in Braunschweig, Hamburg, and Munich. Remaining open and honest with myself was my guiding principle throughout my studies. During the semester breaks, I went on study trips with my camera and watercolor pad, visited museums, and studied art history. Internships in book production helped to demystify the "black art." While still a student, an experiment for a children's book led to a bestseller, and this work has stayed with me ever since.
